I almost forgot, I went with the high school students a few weeks ago to sell thier bottles to recycle and they had about 1,500 pounds, and earned about $150, which will go toward building a water tank in the high school, since it has no water now. I´m worried though about when school is over, because I want this project to continue, not to end when they graduate.

$150 sounds pretty good for a job well done. Keep up the good work!

Love you and miss you,

Uncle Tim

it is! that`s about what most people make in a month here. and these kids made it in a few hours of picking bottles off the streets. this project has so much potential but people just don`t see it.

Do they have any means or mechanisms for you or another Peace Corps member to be able to reach these high schoolers once they do graduate?? Do they have any college / university type structure? If so maybe the recycling efforts could be targeted there as well to keep these kids in the habit a little while longer. They also need to be encourage to spread the word themselves to their families and to their communities. The next newest generation can always make huge changes in years to come for the better.
